LAKE ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL
We are excited to share information about the implementation of a new character development program at Lake Roosevelt High School beginning with the 2007-08 school year. The ASB and Leadership developed Lake Roosevelt’s version of this program from a program created by students at Lakeside High School in the Nine Mile School District just outside of Spokane. The POWER Program is based on 5 principles: Pride, Ownership, Warmth, Encouragement, and Respect. The POWER Goals are: At a school-wide assembly on August 28, 2007, we presented the program to our students. Our school Principal, our student body President, and the Leadership class spoke on their concerns with our school community and the desire our staff and students have to make Lake Roosevelt High School the most positive and effective learning environment for our students. The Leadership class presented the program’s highlights: POWER Bands (used daily and weekly to receive incentives), POWER Pledges (that go into a box for Raider blankets drawn once a month), POWER Cards (students attend 5 Raider social activities and receive a free Raider shirt), and POWER Rewards. The Leadership Class presented a skit to demonstrate the Principles in action. At the end of the assembly, the students were asked to make a commitment and sign a POWER Pledge. Upon signing the pledge, the students received their POWER Band and a POWER Card. ASB chose to fund all bands and basic incentives to encourage the Raider POWER principles? We are very excited about what we have accomplished for our new
program thus far, however, the POWER program has room for more development.
We do have the need for prizes for some of our activities. If you have
something you can donate or have connections to businesses that might
be interested in being one of our Raider POWER partners, please contact
Lake Roosevelt High School.
